River Oaks Baptist School is seeking a dynamic and innovative educator to join our team as a Middle School Visual Arts Teacher in a long-term substitute role beginning January 2025.

 

This teacher will be responsible for teaching middle school Visual Arts and will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of how to teach visual arts, how to organize and manage a classroom, and how to motivate and engage students.  This teacher must be able to communicate effectively with parents, other teachers, and administrators, both in person and in writing.  He/she needs to be organized with the ability to keep on top of an array of fast moving, complex activities and interactions.  We are looking for a candidate who exhibits enthusiasm, energy, initiative and the capacity for reflection and lifelong learning. Working as a team member and enjoying teaching middle school students is essential. 

 

This teacher is supported by a Director of Fine Arts, the Middle School Division Head, and the Associate Head of School for Academics.  As with all faculty openings, the School seeks candidates eager to support our mission of preparing students to meet life’s challenges and lead tomorrow’s world through a superior educational program undergirded by faith in Jesus Christ and Christian principles.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Teach Visual Arts courses to middle school students
  • Serve as an advisor to middle school students
  • Teach engaging learning experiences to expose students to visual arts techniques such as print making, painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, and others using the principles and elements of art in composition
  • Utilize provided curriculum that supports critical thinking and problem solving, and utilize a variety of art mediums.
  • Model and guide students in Christ-like values and character development
  • Employ current pedagogies
  • Participate collaboratively in grade-level, department, division, and all-school teams
  • Communicate effectively with parents and colleagues, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, energy, initiative, and self-reflection
  • Motivate and engage students
  • Delight in teaching children in the middle school years

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A vibrant Christian spiritual life and a desire to work in a Christian environment
  • A bachelor’s degree or teaching certificate in field
  • Successful completion of background checks and verification
